Time once again for everybody's favorite---Word Bird Wednesday! You don't have to be an experienced bird watcher or photographer (Thank the LORD) to join in the fun. All you really need is a love of birds--observing them, photographing them, feeding them, learning about them, sharing them, enjoying them--or just ooohing and ahhhing over the finds of others. Whatever you it is you enjoy about birds, join up with Springman's Word Bird Wednesday at The Pine River Review. You won't be sorry--unless you miss it.
These pictures were not cropped at all...the birds just let us get close...maybe it was too darn cold for them to move last week....it sure as heck isn't cold this week! Anyway without further ado---
All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up...
This pretty Mockingbird just sat there and let me get closer and closer.... |
This Great Blue Heron was playing possum with us- or very focused on a fish... |
This female (no red) Hairy Woodpecker was way too interested in eating to be bothered with me taking her photograph. |

Great pics. I posted a bunch of seagulls on my last post.
Those birds really wanted their picture taken.
Great pictures.

Jee, these are gorgeous!
Ain't you a lucky one? :D
Amazing shots, so sharp and clear.
What lovely photos. I have never seen a mocker in person and the herons are long south, but I still have the woodpeckers to keep me company.....Michelle
Strike a pose! These are fabulous!
All great close-ups but the first is really fantastic with the light shining in its eye.
Great close ups Pam.
I love it when the birds let us get close like that.
I think they felt so safe with you that there was no need to move away.
Doesn't it feel good when they trust you to come near?
nice portraits. very mucjh in contrast with your following post of sillouettes.
Well done
Dave
You were so close, you might have been able to have a low f/1.8 for some of them. Amazing heron shot.
Incredible photographs. I may just have to get another camera one day.
EXCELLENT! What a great eye you got on the mockingbird--he was probably eyeing up your gear getting ready to attack...THEY attack my car's rear window almost every week--
Love the heron and the WP too!!
I mus be dense or something, it just dawned on me that we live in the same place, just different continents! . . . and what a pleasant place it is.
Thanks so much to everyone for visiting and commenting! I have just returned from visiting y'alls blogs and completely enjoyed all the photos!

Great close ups!! Boom & gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
You make the Mockingbird look like a star! Nice close-ups also of the Hairy and the Great Blue!
Lovely birds to see and great close up images. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, your photography is just amazing. What kind of camera are you using? Have you been taking pictures very long? They are just beautiful.
I so appreciate everyone's comments so very much! I think I have visited everyone's blogs so far--I'm sure I completely enjoyed every one of them!
Farm Girl--it's a Canon EOS Rebel that I LOVE! Hubs bought it for me two years ago and it never leaves my side! He also bought me the 75-300 mm lens and one of these days, I hope to have an even bigger one! Love my lens too!
Excellent close-ups Pam. I love it when birds let you get that close to them.

LOL The "Sunset Blvd." quote is to funny. In that great movie the line is delivered dripping in pathos. You give it a good turn.
There is something particularly wonderful about your Heron picture that I can't quite put into words.
Your silhouette series was a sensational idea. Great stuff!
