They do look painted. The colors are so vibrant. I sat looking out my window before and about 5 ft. from me was a red headed woodpecker in the tree in the window. I couldn't get my camera but I just enjoyed watching his beautiful colors. Love my birds!
My parents used to have a duck-themed bathroom in their home. I always found the way they look fascinating and would then go down to the nearby park and watch the ducks. I always wished I could draw them, I guess I could start photographing them instead.
